CHOATE TENNIS
2000 Spring Break Trip
Members of the Choate tennis team were the
guests of Charles Pasarell '99 and his family at the Tennis Masters
Series Indian Wells in Southern California in March 2000. The tournament
featured all of the top men and women players in the world and was the first event in the
new Tennis Master Series on the ATP Tour this year. The event was staged in a
spectacular new facility this year: the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, not
far from Palm Springs in the Coachella Valley. The complex includes what must be the
finest tennis stadium anywhere in the world: a venue that seats over 16,000 spectators and
is lavishly equipped with facilities for players, the media, and guests of the tournament.
The Choate boys looked on with awe as the new stadium was dedicated on March 13, with
dozens of tennis luminaries in attendance.
The Choate squad had plenty of
opportunities to play on the practice courts at the tournament site and also at the nearby
Marriott Desert Villas Resort, where we stayed. And all week long, we enjoyed world class
tennis, either from a luxury box in the stadium or from courtside seats.
The Wild Boars also spent a day in Los Angeles, with a studio tour at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, followed by tennis at the Riviera Club in Pacific Palisades, all thanks to the hospitality of the Jacobi family.
Coach Gallagher and the team are extraordinarily grateful to the Pasarells once again for their generosity and terrific hospitality in the California Desert.
